Aim:

The aim of this special session is to gather together researchers from different research fields (sociology, physics, economics, finance, mathematics and engineering, etc) to review recent results, exchange ideas and methods and to confront important problems like the relationship between social networks and large-scale simulations.

It has been noticed that many real-world networks arising from non-supervised growth processes display common topological features. The most striking among them is the emergence of a network topology with a power-law distribution. Self-organized networks with a scale-free topology, due to their relevance for allowing the understanding of the origin of their common organization and the presence of an underlying growth mechanism, have attracted in recent years. Besides, large-scale simulations on real-world networks can help people to capture the embedded information, and the simulated results can be further applied to modeling various real-world networks.

The session organizers will try to promote an open-minded, cross-fertilizing, and regular exchange of ideas among scholars and practitioners of the different fields in a friendly environment. All researchers from within and outside the Asia-Pacific region are welcome to participate.

Paper submission:

The prospective authors should submit the paper on-line through EasyChair (see the conference website http://www.aiecon.org/conference/wcss2012/index.htm on "Paper Submission"). When submitting, please choose "Social Networks and Computing" as the topic of interest so that it will be separated from other general submissions. The authors are also expected to send an email to the special session organizer to indicate that they have done so. The paper submission deadline is May 15, 2012, and other schedules are the same as what have been indicated in the conference website.
